95 employees will work around the clock to clean the trains on the Heathrow Express – some of which have to be turned around in seven minutes.  Connaught’s team services everything that is below ground and is one of the few companies with accreditation to clean tracks and tunnels as well as platforms.  Including the addition of the T5 work, almost 18,000 metres of track, tunnels and platforms are cleaned in and around Heathrow as well as the Heathrow Express (nine-car) and Heathrow Connect (four-car) trains that travel to-and-from Paddington and Heathrow throughout every day.

Connaught plc’s environmental business is responsible for cleaning all the Heathrow Express stations at Heathrow Central, Terminal 4 and the T5 station as well all the turnaround trains.  The contract is worth £6 million over four years.

Richard Porter of BAA said: “Terminal 5 station is unique as it accommodates the heavy rail service of Heathrow Express as well as the LUL services of the Piccadilly line. Throughout the design and build of the station, Connaught has been involved ensuring that materials used can be easily cleaned and maintained going forward.”
