Staffordshire-based Total Access (UK) Limited has won the contract for the cleaning, maintenance & inspection of Britain’s newest iconic structure - Spinnaker Tower.

This awe-inspiring new national icon on England’s south coast will be in the safe hands of Total Access for the next three years. The company is already experienced in work on structures such as the London Eye, Wembley Stadium & Old Trafford, and has won the contract despite competition from outside the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA International), of which it is a leading member.

The Tower, which is the focal point of the renaissance of the Portsmouth Harbour Project, has already become a popular attraction offering three viewing galleries at 100, 105 and 110 metres above the sea.
It offers amazing 360 degree panoramic views of the south coast, Portsmouth Harbour and the Isle of Wight, with views stretching up to 23 miles away.

Graham Burnett, managing director of Total Access (UK) Ltd and currently chairman of IRATA, said: "The building was designed for the use of industrial rope access from the outset but we faced strong competition from outside the Association.
The outstanding safety record of IRATA as an organisation, with its commitment to thorough training and effective working, clearly counted for us during the submission process and our being awarded the contract can only bring further credit to the entire membership of the Association worldwide.

"Richard Hinckley, sales director of Total Access, said: "This demonstrates that it is well known that IRATA industrial rope access and its use on many of the highest profile buildings and structures across the UK and the world is the chosen method of keeping many of these buildings in good order.

Environmentally attractive, supremely safe and hugely effective, industrial rope access is now often selected ahead of more sophisticated means of access because of its reliability and simplicity.
Leaving a minimal ‘footprint’ at ground level IRATA rope access technicians can be safely at work without invading the space or enjoyment of the people working in or visiting such buildings, thus keeping disruption to an absolute minimum."
