Neil Nixon reports from Brushrite

Having enjoyed several years running the Brush Company, Simon Weaving saw an opportunity to set up on his own. So, back in 2003 and in partnership with his wife Gwen, that's what he did, forming Brushrite.

Initially, the company offered a range of brushes and brooms to the UK cleaning industry, quickly expanding when it bought the assets of the Brush Company. The company soon moved into the cleaning machines business as a natural progression from supplying the brushes. It soon became official dealers for both Dulevo, Alto and Taski, and enjoys a very strong relationship with these companies today.

"We have established a very good reputation very quickly," said Simon Weaving. "We offer a full maintenance service with a number of engineers on the road, and always respond very quickly to the needs of our new and established customers."

Such has been the success of the company that it will soon be taking on a second unit on the industrial park on which it's based, just outside Basingstoke. "The rental business has really taken off for us meaning that we desperately need more space," said Gwen Weaving. "This expansion will coincide with us trading as two separate companies - the brushes will still be handled by Brushrite but all the machine sales and hire will go through Bramley Floor Machines Ltd."

Hire currently accounts for approximately 60% of the company's turnover, with no sign of this abating. Indeed, the year on year increase in the hire business continues to grow. Simon said: "This restructuring and expansion of the business will enable us to inject more time and effort into Brushrite. This business has massive potential and offers the industry some unique products. For example, we are sole agents for Hex Drive brushes that fit all the old Lincoln machines as well as the new Fiorentini models."

The company also offers a line of Quadralene chemicals, as well as spares for most cleaning machines either currently or previously in use in the UK.

Going forward, the restructured Brushrite and Bramley Floor  Machines businesses will have room to grow and space to focus on what they do best - providing a first class service to their customers. Simon and Gwen are planning a major stand at next year's Cleaning Show - given the growth they have enjoyed in the last few years, one can only imagine where they'll be by next March!
