    Eye protection reduces fogging

Kimberly-Clark Professional has unveiled Kleenguard V50 Eye Protection with Foam Fog Shield, an innovation in eye protection for the safety sector with a new fog shield which, claims the company, reduces fog by over 50% compared with traditional safety glasses.

“We found that lens fogging was a major contribution to worker down time,” said Brian Davis, category manager Kimberly-Clark’s safety business. “Kleenguard V50 Eye Protection with Foam Fog Shield has been developed to provide the answer, while offering the improved comfort that’s needed to make sure that everybody who should be wearing eye protection, is wearing eye protection.”

Kleenguard V50 comes with an impact resistant polycarbonate lens that meets European standard EN166 1FN. The foam fog and particle shield, along with an anti-fog coating which meets the stringent levels required to meet the EN166 N lens rating, offers the optimum in anti-fog protection. Its lightweight wrap around design, soft adjustable nose bridge and angling soft rubber temples all add up to greater comfort. With a choice of three lenses it offers 99.9% UVA/UVB protection.

HTC is a company with a long and distinguished history, although it has only been present in the UK for the last 14 months. It started out life as a natural stone and concrete grinding company - an area it remains very strong in - but its main push as it establishes itself in the UK market will be DCS - the Diamond Cleaning System.

The DCS division of HTC in the UK is being headed by Andrew Baird who has joined the company from the Cleaning Pad Co., the company that distributed HTC’s Twister products in the UK prior to the arrival of the parent company. DCS - the Diamond Cleaning System - is a means of mechanically cleaning, restoring and maintaining floors using microscopic diamonds through two methods - Twister and Hybrid - both part of the eco friendly cleaning revolution.

Hako Machines Ltd is sponsoring a young explorer’s expedition to the Arctic in order to conduct environmental research. Tom Townsend, aged 16, will spend the summer in Svalbard, Europe’s most northerly territory, just 600 miles from the North Pole, with the British Schools Exploring Society (BSES).

Townsend, from Llanelli, South Wales, is one of 60 students selected to take the trip which includes survival training prior to his departure. Whilst on the expedition, he will be involved in valuable environmental fieldwork and contributing to research on climate change, glaciology, ornithology as well as ecological studies of habitats. There will also be more daring and adventurous tasks such as mountaineering, trekking, cross-country skiing and camping in the wilderness.

    Cathedral’s pristine screen

Universal Aerial Platforms recently worked with Coventry Cathedral to help clean its famous West Screen. The company provided a Spider FS290 which allowed access to all levels of the inside and outside of this huge piece of artwork without disruption.

This priceless screen is one of the most impressive features of the cathedral and was created by New Zealand artist John Hutton in the late 1950’s.  It took 10 years to complete and consists of 90 glass plates each measuring 8ft by 3ft of which 66 depict hand tooled etchings of saints and angels all suspended in a bronze frame from the Cathedrals roof.

Advance Cleaning Services, the specialist contractor which undertook the clean, knows the new Spider to be a sure-footed means of accessing difficult commissions.
The machine itself is used in situations where careful handling and positioning are required. In this case, having to work closely to such a valuable piece of history, the special features of the FS290 (silent, fume-free electric working, narrow - 0.8m - stowed width, and  light weight) were all attributes essential to overcome the assignment’s restrictions.
