Autoclenz appointment
Autoclenz, specialist in car and fleet valeting, has made two new senior appointments and launched a brand new website. Lee Johns takes over as divisional sales manager of React, the company’s specialist cleaning and decontamination service, while Chris Taylor heads up the company’s vehicle collection and delivery solution, Movements by Autoclenz, as well as taking responsibility for the Ready to Rent accounts in the south east.
Johns, who has worked for Autoclenz for over 10 years, said: “I’m really excited about this new role as React has the potential to achieve huge growth in key market areas such as the emergency services, housing associations and facilities management. I’ll be looking to accelerate that growth. React offers a clean, professional and discrete service, when it’s needed most.”
Taylor, who previously worked as a business development manager for Mercedes Benz, said: “Autoclenz is well known for its professional, high quality service delivery and it’s from this position that I can help it to grow. Clients who outsource their collection and delivery services through Autoclenz can expect a first class service.”
Chief executive, Grahame Rummery, said: “It’s a challenging year ahead and we’re expecting increased growth in new service areas. These high- profile appointments and the launch of our new website reflect this and our desire to place increased emphasis on the professional and cost-effective services we offer customers.”
Resource in harmony with The Sage
Resource has been awarded a contract with the North Music Trust, based in The Sage, an internationally renowned concert venue and exhibition centre in Gateshead.
Following a rigorous and competitive tender process, Resource has been appointed to provide the cleaning services across the site until 2012, adding over £200,000 to the company’s annual turnover.
Since its opening in December 2004, The Sage has become famous throughout the world, not only as a leading educational establishment for young musicians but also as an architectural achievement in its own right. The building - which shows some resemblance to the Sydney Opera House - cost a reputed £70 million to construct and includes two auditoria, a rehearsal space and a 25-room music education centre - each conceived as a separate enclosure.
Esther Wassmann, managing director of Resource, said: “This is a fantastic new business win. The Sage is an iconic building with a truly unique design and winning the contract demonstrates the high quality cleaning services our team provides. We’ve established a strong and well-deserved reputation for our ability to service high profile public buildings. In such buildings, the provision of effective cleaning services is a vital part of creating a comfortable environment for the audience to relax in.”

Legion reduces environmental impact
ISO 14001 accredited Advance Cleaning has long been dedicated to limiting its impact on the environment, and now it is using its cleaning services to develop its clients green policies.
Advance currently provides a daily office cleaning service through Mace Macro for the Royal British Legion at its Southwark headquarters.
It has recently introduced a number of initiatives to the contract to make its cleaning services greener and consequently help to reduce RBL's environmental impact. Such initiatives include: cutting down chemical usage to a minimum; favouring products with minimal packaging; using microfibre technology; and providing eco-friendly uniforms. Advance is also working with Mace Macro FM and RBL on plans to introduce a recycling system for dry waste. This will be established at a later date.
Another innovative step is the introduction of eSquiggles at the site.
eSquiggles allows for forms to be sent to and from a handheld PDA device, and can also be used to sign off work electronically. Ultimately it greatly limits paper usage as forms that were once printed out can now be dealt with directly on screen. It also limits emissions and maximises efficiency as operatives no longer need to return to the office to sign any forms.
Operations manager at Advance, Rebecca Johnston, said: “I’m so thrilled that we have been able to work with RBL towards being green. They’re a great organisation to work with and are really keen to reduce their environmental impact. We want to help them in any way that we can, and they’re very open to using our advice and expertise.”

FM contract for Land Securities new development
MITIE has secured a new three-year contract with a total value of £6 million to provide facilities management services to Land Securities’ new building, One New Change in London.
One New Change is part of Land Securities’ central London development pipeline and is currently under construction - but is taking shape as a world-class contemporary building designed to complement its historic neighbour, St Paul’s Cathedral. The mixed-use scheme was designed by architect Jean Nouvel, and will offer 340,000 sq ft of office space and 220,000 sq feet of shops, cafes and restaurants as well as a public roof top terrace offering spectacular views of St Paul’s, in the heart of the City.
The building is due to be completed and fully operational in Autumn 2010 when it will lead the transformation of the City into a seven-day shopping and leisure destination with a difference. MITIE will be gearing up its mobilisation teams to phase in its services as the building nears completion, ensuring that a first-class facilities management operation will be in place from the day the building opens.
MITIE’s facilities management team will be responsible for managing the building to make sure that it is clean and secure, that visitors to the building’s reception area are looked after and that the mail is delivered efficiently.
Patrick Stirland, managing director of MITIE’s facilities management division, said: “Land Securities is a core and deeply valued client to MITIE and we are delighted to be extending the portfolio of services that we provide to it with the facilities management contract for the prestigious One New Change building. The role of MITIE at One New Change will be to provide tourists, shoppers, visitors and workers with positive, memorable experiences. Matching the world-class nature of One New Change with world-class service is essential. Creating a positive, lasting first impression will be instrumental in all of the services that MITIE will be providing. From the moment a visitor walks through the door to the time they leave, it is imperative that at every touch point opportunity, the service delivered is personal to each customer’s needs and represents the visions and values of Land Securities at One New Change. Attention to detail will be important, and we will partner with Land Securities in providing a positive experience to all visitors.”
Mike Fitton, general manager for Land Securities, said: “After an extensive procurement exercise, we awarded the facilities management contract to MITIE because we felt they understood and could help to fulfil our vision for the One New Change building. We look forward to working with them in a place that will transform the local area, providing world-class, state of the art office space and one of the largest retail spaces in central London, creating the City’s first major retail destination.”

10 years service and still going strong
Staffordshire County Council first bought a Truvox Multiwash multi- purpose floor cleaning machine back in 2000, as more and more safety floors were installed in Staffordshire schools. Since then, Staffordshire has continued to buy the Multiwash and, almost 10 years on, has now bought more than 250 of them.
Chris Ryan, group manager (development) of cleaning services for Staffordshire County Council, said that it was primarily the simplicity of using the Truvox Multiwash on notoriously labour- intensive safety flooring that prompted the initial purchase, and the effectiveness and reliability of the Multiwash that encouraged the local authority service provider to buy more. He said: “We had trialled various alternative contra-rotating machines, which we found not to be as easy to use or as effective as the Multiwash. For our services we have found the Multiwash to be the most user-friendly, easy to maintain and cost-effective multi-purpose machine available.”
The Truvox Multiwash washes, mops, scrubs and dries on both hard and soft floor coverings in a single pass and leaves floors ready to walk on in minutes - an essential capability for health and safety compliance. It is effective on ‘difficult’ floors like non-slip safety floors, low pile carpets, entrance matting and escalators. Easy to use and manoeuvre, the Multiwash has quickly interchangeable brushes, with a range of different brushes available, and easily accessible and removable tanks to make filling, emptying and cleaning straightforward.
Proven over more than a decade for cleaning food service areas, hospitals, schools, nursing homes and retail stores, the Multiwash is available in three different cleaning widths - 24cm, 34cm and 44cm.
The larger models are available with a pump and spray if required, making them better for cleaning carpets or larger floor areas.
