At the 2nd Team Clean Challenge Awards ceremony in London’s Westminster, Eddie Green of OCS was named best overall manager. In this year’s Team Clean Challenge, organised by Asset Skills, 22 teams from the private and public sector took part with specialisms ranging from office cleaning to healthcare, industrial and school cleaning. Green was praised by the competition judges for his ‘outstanding performance’, exceptional leadership, organisational skills, and decisive action, as well as his awareness of Health and Safety and effective use of PPE.
Green, the group’s operations manager for window and specialist cleaning in the South Thames area, said: “Taking part in the Team Clean Challenge really put to the test all I have learnt over the last 10 years with OCS. I started with the company as a mobile cleaning operative and the training, the experience and the knowledge I’ve gained during my career progression was invaluable in helping me.”
Chris James, director of research and development for Asset Skills, said: “When we took on organising the UK's first ever cleaning skills competition we knew it was a tough challenge. But it was our intention from the outset not just to be another contest, but to be an exemplar contest. The competition has gone from strength to strength and is set to get bigger and better.”
Support services and construction company Carillion has appointed Rob Alexander to the role of supply chain director for Carillion Business Services, the company’s facilities and property management services operations.
Executive director, Don Kenny, said: “The supply chain plays a crucial role in our delivery of services to a wide range of customers. At a time when we are all looking to gain maximum value, I am delighted to be welcoming someone of Rob Alexander’s calibre into our senior management team. A strong partnership with our supply chain is pivotal to Carillion’s continued reputation as a market leader.”
Alexander has worked in the supply chain and procurement area for more than 18 years since graduating from Bath University. Having begun his career as a graduate with Procter & Gamble, his experience spans many industry sectors and includes global sourcing and supply chain posts both in-house and on secondment with a number of blue chip companies, consultancy firms and private businesses. He joins Carillion following a board level decision to refresh the company’s focus on the value to be gained through its supply chain.
The Carillion team has already embarked upon a strategic review of its supply chain throughout 2008/9 to drive enhanced value and performance and to work with the supply chain to minimise the impact of its activities on the environment and make positive contributions to local communities, which has contributed to Carillion being recognised as the Sunday Times Best Green Company for 2008.
Alexander said: “I am looking forward to building on what I can see is already a great deal of fantastic groundwork by the supply chain team. I am a strong believer in the value that a capable team and technology can bring to this key business function; I’m also passionate about ensuring that supply chain is viewed as an end-to-end function - it is crucial that we build deep relationships with our suppliers so we can bring added value to our customers and deliver an exceptional experience.”
Dave Rogers has rejoined Unger as UK general manager. He originally joined Unger in January 1997. During his first spell with the company he championed the development of several industry-changing product innovations including the Unger HiFlo CarbonTec water-fed pole system which gave every window cleaner the chance to clean windows and glazed facades faster and more effectively while working safely at ground level.
In early 2007 Rogers left Unger to lead the commercial activities of a company in the grounds care and landscaping sector. He resurfaced in the cleaning industry in the summer of 2008 as managing director of Avmor UK, a distributor of floor polishes, strippers and cleaning chemicals.
Rogers said: “I am passionate about Unger and have a deep, deep affinity with its customers. Unger is doing so much to make the tools and techniques used day in, day out by our customers easier, more productive, safer and less expensive; and there is so much more that we will be doing in this respect in future. Few people in this business are genuinely able to claim that they improve the working lives of their customers but at Unger, hand on heart, I can!”
Mark Unger said: “We are delighted to have Dave rejoin our team. His contacts and knowledge of the UK window cleaning and janitorial markets are second to none. He helped build our strong market share in the UK and we know that he brings high energy and a tireless focus on answering the needs of our customers that can only strengthen our position still further.” Dave Rogers will also continue to run Avmor UK where a team is now in place to develop that business.
