SCA ‘one of the world’s most ethical companies’
SCA has been named one of the most ethical companies in the world for the second year running. The news comes within months of the company’s fifth consecutive appearance in the list of the world’s most sustainable corporations.
Tork manufacturer SCA’s latest accolade was awarded by the Ethisphere Institute in New York. The body considered more than 10,000 companies in its annual ethics survey and named SCA among the top 99 in the world.
“We are naturally pleased to have qualified as one of the most ethical companies in the world for the second consecutive year,” said Ulf Söderström, senior vice president business development and strategy at SCA with responsibility for the group’s sustainability matters. “The award is a recognition of our efforts to manage our extensive operations in a responsible manner.”
The Ethisphere Institute received nominations from companies across 35 industries in more than 100 countries. The organisation looked at various topics such as sustainability track record, the way a company responded to the community and how it audited its supply chain.
20 companies named in last year’s list did not appear this year, while 25 others were newcomers in 2009. This year’s list included Marks & Spencer, Nike, Unilever and McDonald’s besides SCA.
In January, SCA was named among the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World list at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. This annual listing was first introduced in 2005 and SCA has featured every year since its inception.
The Global 100, initiated by Corporate Knights Inc. with Innovest as the exclusive research provider, evaluates companies on how effectively they manage environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities.
